AZ IGNITION INTERLOCK DEVICES
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How does the Arizona MVD know if I need an Ignition Interlock Device on my vehicle?

If you are convicted of a DUI in Arizona, the Court will immediately notify the MVD. The MVD will then place a status code with the number 61 on your driving record. Officers can see this code if they stop you and request it.

When must I get the Ignition Interlock installed?

If your driving privileges have already been reinstated you must do it now. If your license is still suspended or revoked and you have not reinstated it, as soon as you are eligible to reinstate your driving privileges, you must have the device installed and then reinstate your privileges.

How often must the ignition interlock device be calibrated and inspected?

Answer: Once the IID has been installed, it has to be inspected and calibrated every 30 days during the first three months, and then once every two months for the rest of the installation term.

What happens if it fails an inspection?

If during an inspection the IID provider notices that the machine is not working or non-compliance is indicated, the provider reports its findings to the MVD. The MVD, in turn, may then extend the period of installation

Can I remove the device on my own?

If you do you will be presumed to be non-compliant with the requirement and your driving privilege may be canceled, revoked or suspended.

Can I have one installed on my motorcycle?

No. Must be either a car or a truck.
